Kentucky medical marijuanas card Instructions/FAQ

State Instructions:

Create account for your Kentucky medical cannabis card on the states website:  https://ky-chfs-public.nls.egov.com/register 

They will send you a confirmation email check and click verify (sometimes goes to spam) 

Log in to your account using username and password.

Under your name top left corner click +CREATE NEW APPLICATION  

select *I am a patient    Click NEW PATIENT REGISTRATION and Create Application

General Information:  Click in state qualifying patient , Type in all your personal info  Then Save and Next

Applicant Contact Information: Type physical address, verify. Type mailing address , click verify then Save and next.

Practitioner Certification: Click view available certifications. Your Dr form we did will just drop into your account Then click save and next.

Caregiver:  click No.  Save and next

Upload copy of your Kentucky photo ID.

Questions and Attestations: Click Yes or No if you want to be in clinical marijuana studies then Yes, Yes, and sign your legal name and type date.

Payment:  Check card or ACH for your $25 state fee and type in payment billing info.

Review and Submit.

The state generally approves your Kentucky medical cannabis card within 30 days.  You can print it out from your account or save the pdf on your phone to shop at dispensaries.

Med Card District offers $199 medical cards for Kentucky patients to be able to shop at medical cannabis dispensaries


  • Resident of Kentucky
  •  WE ONLY SEE PATENTS AGE 21+  (18-20 CASE BY CASE BASIS)
  •  Diagnosed with a qualifying medical condition and
    has obtained a written certification from us
  • Must NOT have any disqualifying felony convictions


  • Chronic or debilitating pain,
  • Any type or form of cancer, regardless of stage;
  • Epilepsy or any other seizure disorder;
  • Multiple sclerosis, muscle spasms, or spasticity;
  • Chronic nausea or cyclical vomiting syndrome that has been proven resistant to other conventional medical treatments;
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder; and, 
  • Any other medical condition or disease that the state of Kentucky determines.

  • ​​Allowable medical marijuana products include edibles, oils, tinctures, vapes, and raw plant material. Registered cardholders under 21 years of age may not purchase or use vaping products.
  • Kentuckians are also prohibited from consuming raw plant material by smoking. All raw plant materials packaged in the Commonwealth be labeled as “not intended for consumption by smoking."​Medical cannabis use in Kentucky is permitted on or after Jan. 1, 2025, and it's important to be aware of the following key restrictions. Kentucky medical cannabis card holders MAY NOT:
    • Operate vehicles or machinery while under the influence
    • Keep medical cannabis in arm's reach when operating machinery.
    • Use medical cannabis if it impairs their ability to perform tasks safely.
    • Possess or use medical cannabis on school property unless the school's policies allow registered qualified patients to use their medication at school, with the condition that it's administered by a school nurse or appropriate staff.
    • Possess or use their medical cannabis at correctional facilities, or on federal property.
    • Smoke medical cannabis.
    • Grow their own medical cannabis unless you have the special state business license to do so.


  • Yes. HOWEVER, it is important to note that you CAN NOT:
    • DO NOT operate any vehicle or machinery while under the influence
    • DO NOT Consume your medication while in control of a vehicle or machinery.
    • DO NOT Possess your medication that is within arm's reach or requires less than a two-step process to access while operating any machinery or transportation device.


All registry ID medical cannabis cardholders who are allowed to possess medication (qualified patients who are 18+ years of age and designated caregivers) must adhere to the following requirements when carrying medicine outside of their residence:

Medication must be kept in its original container from the dispensary.

Cardholders must possess their valid registry ID card (or, for visiting qualified patients, their out-of-state registry ID card and documentation of their qualifying medical condition diagnosis).


All registry ID medical cannabis cardholders who are allowed to possess medication (qualified patients who are 18+ years of age and designated caregivers) must adhere to theStoring medication purchased from dispensaries at home

Products purchased from dispensaries can be mistaken for regular medications, tobacco products, foods, and beverages. Kentucky has strict labeling laws to warn when medical products contain alternative medications To prevent children and other individuals who are not registry ID cardholders from accessing or consuming it.

  •  Keep medical cannabis products in the child-resistant packaging from the dispensary.
  •  Reseal medical cannabis products bought from dispensary after use.
  •  Store and dispose of hmedical cannabis products purchased from dispensary where they cannot be easily seen or accessed by children or pets.
